Routt County United Way 2018-2019 Funding Priorities
Early Childhood Education: Birth to 8 years of age
RCUW seeks to increase access for children into quality preschools.  We also are interested in literacy, kindergarten preparation and other early childhood development programs. In addition, we will look to address the following challenges:
·  Unbalanced resource allocation across the county
·  Lack of trained preschool teachers
Youth Success: 12 to 14 years of age
Transitions are sometimes tough for children, particularly at-risk youth.  Routt County United Way seeks programs and initiatives that will support the successful transition of middle school students into high school. We are also interested in funding two-generational programs. Challenges that we will look to address are:
·  An increased need for youth mental health support
·  Bullying and lack of tolerance for diversity
·  Access to alcohol, tobacco, vaping and other drugs
·  Lack of student engagement and parental support
·  Truancy and unexcused absences
Financial Stability: Individuals and couples 18 years and older
With 20% of our population in Routt County living below the county self-sufficiency standard, many individuals and families are struggling to stay in their homes and make ends meet. Programs that look to address the following will be considered:
·  Motivated individuals that want to become self-sufficient
·  Keeping seniors in their homes longer if they wish
·  Education outreach on finance, health & well-being, family relationships, work/career
·  Decrease numbers on public assistance
·  Improved family stability

Health & Crisis Services: all ages
Crisis services are essential to the health and safety of members in our community.  We will look to fund programs that work on the following:
·  Teenage pregnancies
·  Domestic violence
·  Provide emergency medical, housing, and other crisis support and services
·  Prevent and educate about suicide and bullying
Mental health crisis situations
